Two Day Round-Up

Sorry for not updating yesterday: was quite quiet gossip wise!

For the past week or so Cannes has been at the forefront of the media's glare, so today's main story lies in France. The notorious director Lars Von Trier was holding a press conference to promote his upcoming movie, Melancholia, which stars Kirsten Dunst and Kiefer Sutherland. During this time Von Trier was recorded making anti-semitic comments and cordially has had his invite to the glamorous event revoked.
Well that's one way to promote your mediocre-deemed film.

It was announced today that James Cameron's epic Titantic will be re-released in the cinema's in 3D from April 6th next spring, this is to coincide with the hundreth anniversary of the liner setting sail from Southampton.
There is no doubt that Titanic will be amazing in 3D, from my point of view anyway, but it feels a little tasteless to mark a tragic event with what could be considered as merchandise.

In realation Leonardo DiCaprio, fresh from his split from supermodel Bar Refaeli, is dating Gossip Girl star Blake Lively.
Ooh and the new and final episode of season four is now available from ITV. It promises the usual surprises.

It was Gavin Winstanley who sadly bit the bullet on The Apprentice last night. Or at least I think that is what the show is still called that; it seems the voiceover guy doesn't want to say the name of the show in the introduction anymore! Vincent has to be on borrowed time, surely?! Am now officially saying I think Jim or maybe even Melody may be the ones to beat.

Talk show host Oprah has filmed her last episodes of her long running program. It was a star-studded occasion with Tom Hanks, Beyonce and Will Smith dropping in to wave her off.
In the twenty-five years on working on the show and the various other ventures Oprah has amassed the biggest fortune in Hollywood with a staggering $1.5 billion dollars in the bank.
The effects of Oprah's stepping down has had huge ramifications in a matter of days, sending waves throughout America, if not the world! Lady Gaga has toppled Oprah as the most influential person in the Forbes power list. Soon we're all going to be 'little monsters' if Oprah doesn't help, as the spread reaches pandemic level on Monday with the release of Gaga's 'Born This Way' album.

Finally, articulator extraordinaire and national treasure Stephen Fry is going to be doing some acting in The Hobbit. The details are available at http://www.empireonline.com/ of the roles.

Maria Shriver Won't be Having Arnie Back

In the past week Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife of twenty-five years Maria Shriver have announced their seperation. Now I'm not a cynical person so I think it was lovely of her to wait until he had been re-elected and to serve out his term before announcing their split.
Shockingly today though was the news Arnie had father a child with a former employee of the governor. It's not that shocking really though as reports of his extra-marital liasons had been circling for years.
At least he'll be topping up the alimony and childcare payments in the near future as Arnie heads back to acting in Tinsletown.

Apparently Brad Pitt's next film The Tree of Life was greeted with as much booing from the public as the day he announced he was divorcing Jennifer Aniston.

I caught Black Swan tonight for the first time too. It's an enticing watch and I enjoyed the confusion of it but no wonder Natalie Portman opted to make fluff films right after it's release: I'm exhausted from just watching her moodswings.

Crazy for Gaga

Less than twenty-four hours afte blazing the Radio One Big Weekend stage at Carlisle, it has been announced that Lady Gaga is releasing her new album 'Born This Way' five days earlier via www.metro.com/gaga. I'm not sure how the free paper managed to secure that deal before the official release date but, wow, kudos to them!
Frankly, I'm dying to hear her new material despite the criticism she received for being a Madonna-wannabe recently. I thought that was something that had been put to bed a few months after we were first introduced to the eccentric but it's rearing it's silly head again. I couldn't imagine Madonna coming out of a coffin wearing a leather catsuit, fake baby bump and wowing the crowd with a combination of pop and jazz.

Also Dannii Minogue announced on Saturday she's jumping the sinking ship that is The X Factor. Sources at the show say she was pushed and this was simply a cover-up. Either way I am so bored of this show and I can't imagine The US X Factor is going to do much to revitalise it.

With the summer coming up and too much free time on my hands I'm going to watch some of the top 250 Imdb movies.
I've kicked off with Inglorious Basterds which I thought was an amazing movie and I'd highly recommend it even if it's not your usual taste; I thought I'd hate it because of its trademark violence and uncomfortableness touch from Tarantino. The script is slick, the characters pitch perfect and the soundtrack perfectly suiting.
The show-stealer is Christoph Waltz who deservedly won an Oscar for his portrayal of Hans Landa; a ruthless, charming, charistmatic detective.
Not so impressed with The Shawshank Redemption: how did this get to number one on the list?! Still good though but can't believe the amount of prestige this film has: it's not half as moving as it thinks it is, though my friend informs me "it's more of a guy's weepie". Sadly I found Morgan Freeman's voice-over the most interesting thing in it, which says everything.
Check out chick-flick Morning Glory too, obviously not so high-brow but easy viewing. A bit late on the uptake but I'm loving the song 'Strip Me' by Natasha Bedingfield.

Enjoy!

It's an Historic Day!

Ok, it's not really but it is the first day of blogging! I am incredibly excited to be dedicating some time to it. I'm going to focussing on the world of entertainment: films, television, music, theatre, celebs in the news and everything in between.
I'm hopefully going to be updating everyday with the hottest news and reviews.
Going to start today with some stories fresh off the press and also a little mention to the films I've watched recently.
Any feedback would be great so do drop me a line!

(Very tempting to sign off xoxo as its the finale of Gossip Girl tonight in America but I'll refrain)
